Bassist Kim Deal Leaves Pixies

After 25 years with the Boston-based band, 52-year-old bassist Kim Deal has left the Pixies, with remaining members Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering releasing the news via their Facebook page.

“We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.”

The influential alternative rock pioneers initial break-up in the early ’90s was rumoured to be caused by tensions between Deal and frontman Black Francis, although the quartet reformed in 2004 and have successfully toured the world several times since.

No news yet as to who’ll step up for bass duties, but a Pixies without one of the coolest ladies in rock is sad, sad news – Kim Deal or no deal. Guess we’ll just have to hang out for a piece of Kim when her other band The Breeders hits Australia for Release The Bats festival this October.
