A Thai man has taken to Facebook to confess to the murder of 36-year-old Samong Traisattha, vocalist of black metal outfit Surrender of Divinity, who was found dead last Wednesday. According to Prakarn Harnphanbusakorn‘s Facebook, he murdered Samong for pretending to be a Satanist.
Samong’s widow, Jaruvan Surapol, told The Bangkok Post that Mr Prakarn came to their house on Wednesday to screen-print some t-shirts and have a drink with her husband. When Mrs Jaruvan returned from putting their child to bed, she found her husband lying in a pool of blood.
Police believe that while the two were drinking, an argument ensued, which ended in Samong’s death. Police were on the hunt for for Prakan on Friday, when the Facebook page for Maleficent Meditation, believed to belong to Mr Prakan, issued statements taking credit for the murder.
“I have intended to end my life since I was 25. Because I’ll die eventually, I want to drag down those who tarnish Satanism with me. But I refrained from killing women and children,” he wrote,” Prakan wrote, in addition to posting gruesome images of the murder, which have since been taken down.
“In my view, I have more respect for devoted Buddhists, Christians and Muslims than those who call themselves Satanists without knowing anything about it,” added Prakan. “If I did not kill him, I’m sure he would be murdered by someone else later.” Prakan insisted that the murder was not the result of a Mark Chapman-esque infatuation with an idol, as he was not a fan of Surrender of Divinity’s music.
Prakan said that he ignored Samong’s pleas for mercy as he stabbed him 30 times and proclaimed that people who do not have faith in Satan should not call themselves Satanists. Prakan finished his missive by saying that he hoped to be with Satan after he dies.
