Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 Sixth Lineup Announcement

The lineup for Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 is almost starting to stretch the realms of possibility, with each announcement bringing even more incredible acts to the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm. With the sixth announcement, Bluesfest 2014 welcomes Joss Stone, The Beards, Chain, and more.

The fifth ‘Christmas‘ lineup managed to add Jeff Beck, KC & The Sunshine Band, and WAR to a lineup that already boasted John Mayer, John Butler Trio, Erykah Badu, The Doobie Brothers, Gregg Allman, Jack Johnson, Buddy Guy, Jake Bugg, and Elvis Costello & The Imposters.

Now the sixth announcement kicks off with Grammy Award-winner and reigning soul queen Joss Stone, who was only a teenager when she last played Bluesfest and has since released some sizzling modern soul records and collaborated with the one and only Mick Jagger.

Bluesfest Director Peter Noble himself has said that “Bluesfest 25 would not be complete without” Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows and Chain, whom he described as two artists who “define Australian Roots and Blues music…and are still performing at the top of their game.”

Louisiana’s Terrance Simien first played Bluesfest in 1994 and has returned to show punters what indigenous Zydeco music is all about. A towering figure in modern American roots music, Simien is a respected artist and the first recipient of a Grammy for ‘Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album.’

The mighty Beards are making their fuzzy and triumphant return to Bluesfest, after their hirsute hits like If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard, You’ve Got Two Mums and You Should Consider Sex with a Bearded Man had last year’s crowd dancing while they chucked out their razors.

17-year-old Matthew Curry has garnered praise for his talent as a guitarist and singer and has been hailed as quite possible the next big thing in blues. The young artist regularly jams with Tommy Castro and Bryan Lee and was selected by Steve Miller to join his tour as special guest.

Rounding out the announcement are Dyson, Stringer & Cloher, Glenn Cardier and the Sideshow, Nahko & Medicine For The People, Melbourne’s Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, and Cambodian Space Project. Readers can check out the full Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 lineup, below.
