Chris Cornell‘s final music video, which depicts the late singer-songwriter with a noose around his neck, has been removed from YouTube.
Cornell’s video for ‘Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart’ was released in 2015 to coincide with the release of the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman’s final solo album Higher Truth, but has now been removed from YouTube, as Alternative Nation points out.
The video depicts Cornell as a death row prisoner in the old west, preparing to be hanged — he isn’t hanged, though; he’s only seen preparing for it before he’s rescued by an onlooker. A young boy, played by Cornell’s son Christopher Nicholas Cornell, is seen watching on.
The content of the video became more sensitive following Chris Cornell’s death last month at the age of 52. He was found in a Detroit hotel room with a band around his neck, and his death was later ruled a suicide. A toxicology report has since shown a number of prescription drugs in his system.
Actor Eric Roberts, who starred alongside Cornell in the ‘Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart’ video, recently told Variety that he never thought the musician would take his own life.
“That was the farthest thing I would expect,” he said.
“He seemed so happy, so relaxed. He was always cool. He took it all in stride. He was an amazing and wonderful talented man. He was so paternal.
“Every word out of his mouth was sage-like. Everybody who hung out with him came away a better person. I felt so comfortable when I was with him. He was a dad, and he was like that with everybody.”
It’s unclear exactly when the ‘Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart’ video was taken off YouTube, but a lyric video for the song is still on YouTube and available below.
