Chino Moreno has shocked Deftones fans around the world by revealing his darkest secret: he’s a belieber.
The alternative metal hero came out of the closet in a recent interview with Kerrang, telling the music rag that he has an iPod full of Justin Bieber music and listens to it on the reg.
Despite the knowledge that confessing his sins would likely lead to cries of “sacrilege!” from the rock and metal world, Moreno defended his penchant for the polarising pop star’s new song, What Do You Mean?
“I actually downloaded this song just yesterday. I had to; it’s completely unavoidable!” he gushed. “It comes on in the car every time I get in it. And you know what? I like it! I really do!
“I don’t know how surprised people will be about that. I think people who know me know that I listen to a lot of corny shit! I’ve got no problem with it, so I’ll just keep on enjoying this one.”
And perhaps many of us could take a leaf out of Moreno’s book. In a recent Music Feeds op-ed entitled When You Nod Your Head Yes, But You Wanna Say No: On the Fall and Rise of Justin Bieber, we discussed the rising trend of punters feeling uncomfortable and ashamed as they feel themselves beginning to catch Bieber fever.
But if Chino Moreno isn’t ashamed, then maybe we shouldn’t be either.
