Dexy’s Midnight Runners Leaked For Havest Festival Second Announcement

Written by Mike Hohnen on August 17, 2012

Some good news amongst the Soundwave buzz for those who have been patiently waiting for the second Harvest Festival 2012 lineup announcement, which was meant to come earlier this month, with The Herald Sun letting slip that Dexy’s Midnight Runners will be performing.

Update 21/08: Harvest Festival 2012 second announcement is here!

Dexy’s would have to be one of the most loved-up Brit pop bands to come out of the late 70s and early 80s, and managed to keep a fairly active presence in the following years. Despite having a string of #1 hits, including Come on Eileen and Geno, the band dismembered in 86.

The years to come weren’t kind to the band. For almost two decades there were attempts at solo work from founding member Kevin Rowland, but this failed to connect with fans. Reunion attempts also fell through. Poor business decisions were the next deconstructive factor.

However, now in 2012 the dry spell seems to be over. Dexy’s emerged as a newly formed 6-piece with plans of a new album. This was followed up by the release of She Got a Wiggle, the first single of the highly publicised fourth studio album, perfect timing for the band to make a well overdue Australian appearance.

Harvest top dog Maddah (same guy, yes) didn’t seem too pleased about the leak and has been a tad vague on when the second announcement will drop now that the dust has settled after the first announcement. Though now that Soundwave 2012 has all officially been announced, updates on Harvest are sure to start flooding in.
