Foxygen Aren’t Breaking Up, They Just Don’t Like Each Other Very Much

Talk about airing your dirty laundry in public – Foxygen‘s touring member Elizabeth Fey has taken to Tumblr to expose troubles between the two main members, Jonathan Rado and Sam France, the latter of whom also happens to be her boyfriend.

Fey has published a lengthy blog post, detailing everything from how she joined the band to her initial impression of Rado being “unfriendly”, saying, “It was strange meeting him and knowing they were supposed to be a ‘duo’ but there was no friendship at all, just contracts that needed to be fulfilled.”

She then suggests that he resented her for replacing his girlfriend, who was unable to go on tour with the band, says he and his girlfriend denied her a place to stay while they were on tour, and says he showed no sympathy when her best friend died:

“Rado never once asked me if I was doing okay, knowing that my best friend had died. He never once reached out to me. He is the kind of person who acts cold and unfriendly around most people until he meets someone “famous” or something and then he totally lights up and acts nice. It’s insane.”

The accusations don’t stop there, with Fey telling us what she really thinks about Rado:

“At the end of the UMO tour Rado and Shaun blamed all the problems in Foxygen on me, I was the perfect scape goat: the only girl, a new member, a loud opinionated female. Rado said things like I was “unprofessional” which is just a joke.

“I am unprofessional while Shaun Fleming was/is hitting on girls all the time online, Joe just got jailed on the last tour for being drunk, and Rado couldn’t even tell me any of his problems himself. Instead he just threw them all on Sam and expected him to deal with it. Wrong. He tried to completely control Foxygen even though Sam wrote 95% of the last album.”

She finished up the opus by saying she and Sam would be starting their own band, writing, “He was threatened by Sam and I, saying it was, “The Sam and Lizzie show”. Well, we are going to start our own band (not saying it is replacing Foxygen). It sickens to me to see how Sam has been walked all over.”

Foxygen’s publicist today confirmed that the band are not breaking up, with the band currently on tour without Fey. The icing on the cake was a tweet from the band reading “ALWAYS, DEFINITELY, BELIEVE THE INTERNET.”

Rado’s girlfriend Jackie also responded a to New York Times pop critic Jon Caramanica’s retweet of Fey’s post, saying “Hi, this is Jackie, and that is fiction. Does it seem unreasonable to suggest that egocentrism be the food of blog post?”

Foxygen are currently working on the follow-up to their album We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. Here at Music Feeds, we’re working on acquiring a comfortable chair and a big, big bowl of popcorn to help watch all this unfold.
