Hear Mumford & Sons Go Electric On New Single ‘Believe’

Having announced their new album Wilder Mind earlier this month, Mumford & Sons have shared a first taste of their next record in the form of new single, Believe. The purveyors of British folk are streaming their new track, which is available digitally right now.

Believe (below) begins with some subdued vocals and glistening strings, before electric guitars and rolling pop percussion raise the track’s tempo. It’s that unmistakeable Mumford & Sons singalong sound turned up a few notches, but stopping before 11 somewhere around Coldplay.

Now reinforced by the electronic tones of Believe, Wilder Mind is being marked as a move away from the acoustic sounds of 2009’s Sigh No More and 2012’s Babel. The album will feature 12 new tracks recorded in London and produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, HAIM, Florence & The Machine).

As Marcus Mumford said in a press release at the announcement of Wilder Mind, “We didn’t say: ‘No acoustic instruments.’ But I think all of us had this desire to shake it up.

“The songwriting hasn’t changed drastically; it was led more by a desire to not do the same thing again. Plus, we fell back in love with drums! It’s as simple as that.”

Mumford & Sons are expected to announce an Australian tour in the coming months, with dates likely to be locked in for late 2015.

Believe is available to stream in full, below. The single will see a physical release on 27th April. Wilder Mind is set for release in Australia on 1st May.
