Sam Smith released his Grammy-winning debut album In The Lonely Hour way back in 2014, so it’s sure to be a mix of excitement and relief that he has now finally released new music and is building towards a follow up record.
Smith sent an email to his fanbase at the end of August promising new music “very very soon” and he hasn’t disappointed, now unveiling a brand new single titled ‘Too Good At Goodbyes.’
Typically, it’s a slow-burning love song that builds throughout and climaxes with the introduction of a choir backing Smith’s silky smooth vocals.
“This song is about a relationship I was in and it’s basically about getting good at getting dumped,” Smith said in a statement. “It’s been a long while since I’ve put any music out and I feel that this first single sets the tone of what is to come.”
The track is lifted from Smith’s as yet untitled forthcoming second album, which he has told Beats 1 will be released “before Christmas.”
