Hot Chocolate Singer Errol Brown Has Died Aged 71

Sad news today for fans of veteran British soul collective Hot Chocolate, with founding singer Errol Brown passing away at the age of 71.

The singer of such universally hummed songs as You Sexy Thing and Every 1’s A Winner had been battling liver cancer, and succumbed to the disease surrounded by his family at his home in the Bahamas.

A statement from Brown’s manager, Phil Dale, released shortly after his death reads:

“Errol Brown MBE passed away in The Bahamas this morning with his wife Ginette and daughters Colette and Leonie by his side of liver cancer.

Errol was a lover of life and obviously ‘music!’ I never went into his home, car or a hotel room without music playing.

There was always music around wherever he was. I’ve been with him in the middle of Australia and he has got an idea for a song and started writing.

Errol was a gentle man and was a personal friend of mine who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. His greatest legacy is that his music will live on.”

Tributes are flowing in across social media for the late soul trailblazer from the music world and beyond.

“I am so gutted. Errol Brown was such a charismatic performer,” tweeted singer Beverley Knight.

Kim Wilde offered pictures of herself with Brown and a few memories of their time together. “Errol Brown, beautiful inside and out,” she tweeted. “Loving thoughts with his family Ginette, Colette and Leonie, thinking of you all.”
