INXS performed their final gig ever in Perth last night, Sunday November 11, 2012. According to The Australian, the prominent 80’s act was playing as the support act for Matchbox 20 when drummer Jon Farriss announced the band’s retirement.
Farriss reportedly confessed, “I’m getting teary”, before INXS launched into their 1987 number #1 hit Need You Tonight. INXS was originally founded by the Farris brothers Jon, Tim and Andrew, along with adored singer Michael Hutchence way back in 1977.
After the death of Hutchence in 1997, the remaining members would go on to famously host a contest television series called Rock Star: INXS in 2004. The show resulted in Canadian singer J.D Fortune becoming the band’s on-again-off-again frontman until finally splitting with the band for good in 2011.
Irish vocalist Ciaran Gribbin then took over singing duties until INXS recently announced their retirement after 12 albums, 35 years and a string of memorable singles, including New Sensation and Never Tear Us Apart.
