Lights Announces New Album ‘Little Machines’, Streams Single ‘Up We Go’

Lights has announced her new album, Little Machines, will be available Friday, 19th September. To celebrate her third full-length release, the singular Ontarian electro-pop impressionist has shared the album’s uplifting first single, Up We Go, which readers can get by pre-ordering the album via iTunes.

Lights announced the details and release date of Little Machines after a 10-day social media countdown, during which the singer shared a selfie every day featuring the number of days left till the big announcement. Readers can check out the whole series over on Lights’ Facebook page.

“I think we captured a timeless electronic sound and I’m really proud of it,” said Lights, real name Valerie Anne Poxleitner, of the new album (via Mxdwn). “This record felt like a triumph after a hard dry spell. I turned to poetry, art and female songwriting legends and found myself writing about nostalgia and naivety and enjoying music again. It feels like a complete journey, from front to back.”

The album’s first single serves a metaphor for the album as a whole. The punchy, synth-pop production provides a soaring and glittering soundbed for Poxleitner’s motivational lyrics, which lead into an anthemic, impossibly catchy chorus. A new direction from 2011’s harsher-sounding Siberia.
