Lil Jon Announced for Megarampage

Written by Daniel Clarke on September 21, 2009

Australia’s biggest and most intense marriage of extreme skating / BMX riding and live music, the inaugural Megarampage just got CRUNK! Pioneer of the crunk genre and juice, grill-faced Lil Jon (USA), or Jonathan Mortimer Smith, has just been added to the tight line-up at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium on October 31 with The Offspring, Good Charlotte, Wu Tang Clan and Kelley James plus Aussie bands Cog, Mammal and Shaman Son.

Enter Crunk Rock, Lil Jon’s eighth studio album, is due out in Australia soon. After years of label trouble in the States, delays, and a touch of admitted creative burnout, the record represents the first real work of a new, Lil Jon-birthed musical hybrid some three or four years in the making. It promises a revival of crunk, combined with a wild stylistic ride across a surreal spread of guest contributions by everyone from 3OH!3, R. Kelly and Akon to even a Jacksonville punk rock act called Whole Wheat Bread.

The gargantuan, nine-storey high Megaramp, made famous by America’s X Games, is going to be conquered by the only 14 pro-skateboarders and the only six BMX riders in the entire world that have the balls and the skills to take the ramp on headfirst. Australia’s Jake Brown who survived a 15 metre fall off the ramp at the X Games in 2007 will be riding it, alongside USA’s cream of the crop including Bob Burnquist and Danny Way.

New general admission areas have been opened up to accommodate for the masses and start from $99 through Ticketmaster. There’s also a new a ‘family friendly’ section for the mummas and daddies and their kids.

The Megaramp stands over 9 storeys high is as long as a football field and is the biggest action sport structure in the world today. The Megaramp….Revered by every skater and BMX rider in the world is coming to Melbourne for the first time. The ramp will take a week to build at Etihad Stadium and will almost touch the roof of the stadium when closed – this is not just any skate ramp they are building here, this is one massive structure and this will be one amazing event.

Watch the pros in action WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC HEAVYWEIGHTS FROM THE US AND AUSTRALIA this October the 31st at MEGARAMPAGE, at Etihad Stadium (nee Telstra Dome). Don’t miss out!
