The music world has been shocked by the death of controversial American rapper XXXTentacion (real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy), who has died at the age of 20 after being shot in South Florida.
As the industry reacts to the Onfroy’s death, social media has been flooded by mixed reactions, given the artist’s history of alleged domestic violence, armed home invasion, harassment and battery.
The likes of Kanye West, J. Cole, Lil Yachty and Blink-182’s Travis Barker have already paid tribute to Onfroy…

…while others, including singer-songwriter Moses Sumney, made a point of Onfroy’s violent and controversial past with their own controversial tweets:
R Kelly next please 🙏🏿

Others acknowledged Onfroy’s failings, but honoured the rapper’s impact on the hip hop community and called for anyone praising his death to reconsider what they are doing.
For the record, I was never in support of his ways, especially his domestic abuse which I found to be horrific. But I will never demonize an individual without criticizing the society and/or circumstance in which they were raised. Especially someone under 21.

X had a troubled past and made a lotta bad decisions. He had the reputation he did for a reason.
But dude didn’t deserve to go out that way. Nor is it a good look to be figuratively dancing on his grave.
Let the kid rest in peace.

This kid was a genius . true artist. He made his own rules. He has his faults and we was willing to pay for his sins.. but he was young and he worked so hard on his own self . He wanted to be better. he loves everyone so much . He lived for every kid out here. He had the biggest imagination. He texted me this weekend it was one of his goals to get me & Skrillex to finish his next album. I Invited him to La this week. I was wondering if he was gonna come 💛 . He used every second of his life to create . He reppped Florida to his core.. I love this kid . He was gonna do so much more he promised me 💔
i dont know what to say… im sorry. and we’ll miss you doesnt cut it. no one deserves to go this young. i found a friend in you, someone with no judgement. someone who understood what being judged felt like. you were someone who was trying to better themselves. your art made such an impact on peoples lives… including mine. i am so lucky to have called you a friend and to have a beautiful song with your voice, name and lyrics in it. at this point i feel as if im at a loss for words and nothing i say will do your justice. im so sorry this had to happen to you. im so sorry someone took you from your family at such a young age. im grateful to have known you the short amount of time i did. im grateful for every bit of advice you gave me. i will hold it with me forever. you are so wise. my love goes out to your mom and everyone who was close to you and got to know you more than any of us. i am envious they got to know your beautiful heart. rest peacefully. please respect him, his family and friends and stop supporting all of these nasty TMZ reports. give them privacy and respect. please.
