Now Gotye Does Like The Glee Cover?

Gotye’s dislike for the Glee cover of Somebody That I Used to Know made worldwide headlines earlier in the week and now he is making headlines again for refusing to confirm that he didn’t like their version.

Gotye (Wally De Backer) became the first Australian in over a decade to have a song reach number 1 in the US, with a little help from Glee and his performance on Saturday Night Live. Now everybody wants to know what he thought of the Glee cover, and Gotye is giving us mixed signals.

At Coachella, Gotye told The Herald Sun:

“The vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box…It made it sound dinky and wrong.”

Now, in an interview conducted at a private performance for a Los Angeles radio station, Gotye has claimed his comments were taken out of context by the Herald Sun reporter:

“This xylophone hook in my song, it’s kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song. Somehow that becomes the Glee cover I hated and Darren Criss is an asshole…I thought it was really clever to transpose the song to two guys…It was a great idea.”
