Snoop Re-Reinvents Himself, Introduces World To Snoopzilla For New Funk Project

Not content with simply having hip hop and reggae personas, Snoop has re-branded himself yet again as the funkadelic Snoopzilla. Teaming up with Dâm-Funk, the two parties have formed the unstoppable force that is 7 Days Of Funk, with the first offering from the band, Faden Away, now online.

By the sounds of things, this project has been in the works for some time, with the debut self-titled album slated for a release as soon as mid-December internationally. The album will follow up from Snoop’s other identity, that of Snoop Lion, which released the maiden EP Reincarnation following Snoops conversion to Rastafarianism.

Entering the world of funk may seem a little odd, but according to Snoop, the presence of the genre has always been there:

“We’re the babies of the Mothership. I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dâm-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.”

All this activity from the hip hop OG all makes sense following his interview with Q Magazine where the rapper confessed his desire to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. In order to get in, Snoop clearly feels the need to go above and beyond:

“I wanna go to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. And the only way I can do that is if I do 25 years of great music non-stop. So I’ve got two more years to go. That’s my goal.”

Snoop Dogg and Snoop Lion will both be in town soon for Big Day Out 2014, and who knows, we may even get a sneaky appearance from Snoopzilla as well. Check out the new track as well as the pair talking about their collab below.
