Splendour In The Grass 2014 Lineup – The People React

UPDATE 28/04/14: Three major new acts added to the Splendour 2014 lineup including Childish Gambino — full details here!

Immediately following this morning’s Splendour In The Grass lineup announcement, fans, detractors, and those in that chewy, apathetic middle took to social media — the mouthpiece of the world — to air their excitement, disappointment, and varying opinions regarding Splendour 2014.

The verdict has been mostly positive, with many fans taking to Twitter to curse out their parents for their pathetic lack of aristocratic blood, which could potentially see them miss out on tickets – tix are priced $355 + bf for the three days or $149 + bf for a single day ticket, with onsite camping $99 + bf.

Many reserved particular excitement for day one headliners Outkast, who’ll be performing as part of their 40-date festival-only reunion tour. With sideshows almost certainly out of the question, the Southern-fried hip-hop legends will definitely be drawing a lot of people to Byron Bay this July.

Other names for whom Twitter went nuts included new Australian appearances from Lily Allen, Foster The People, Angus & Julia Stone, Darkside, Interpol, Two Door Cinema Club, City and Colour, The Jezabels, Grouplove, and Sky Ferreira, some of whom had been hotly tipped for SITG.

Of course, you can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but some people are just impossible to please, and take to Twitter to make somewhat arbitrary statements about the quality of a festival lineup with no explanation other than “it’s sh-t.” Oh well.

However, some of the criticism certainly had brain cells behind it, with some fearing that a few pricey headliners — News Limited reports Outkast were paid seven figures for their set — may have come at the expense of a stronger middle card, with some even labelling 2014 a “standard” lineup.
