Once again, Tame Impala have busted out an unorthodox cover and, once again, they’ve nailed it. For the latest entry into the annals of triple j’s Like A Version, the band performed their own rendition of Outkast’s hit Prototype.
It’s a odd match but it somehow seems to work, much like when they performed Fleetwood Mac’s That’s All For Everyone and, of course, Blue Boy’s Remember Me, which hit number 78 in triple j’s Hottest 100 for 2009. That said, any track morphed into the world of Tame Impala is sure to be pretty darn awesome. Frontman Kevin Parker justified their choice of song with a simple statement: “It’s a nice groovy, slow-burner.” Too easy.
The original track was released by the hip hop outfit back in 2003 as one of the better jams featured on Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
