Teen Punches Police Officer At Splendour In The Grass After Allegedly Being Caught With Drugs

A teenager has punched a police officer after allegedly being caught with cocaine and amphetamine at Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass.

In a statement (via News Corp), police say a group of men were acting suspiciously near an entrance to the festival on Saturday afternoon, as officers allegedly observed “some form of exchange”.

Police say one of the men — an 18-year-old from Brisbane — was told he would be searched, but as police tried to take a bag from him, he allegedly hit a Senior Constable in the mouth before trying to run away.

The man was eventually arrested, and was allegedly found to be carrying a number of plastic bags containing what police say was cocaine and amphetamine, as well as some cash.

The 18-year-old has been charged with supplying a prohibited drug, two drug possession charges, dealing with the proceeds of crime, assaulting police and resisting police.

He was bailed and is due to appear in the Byron Bay Local Court on 11th September.

The teenager’s arrest comes after a 22-year-old Queensland woman was also arrested at Splendour this weekend, after allegedly being found with a number of MDMA capsules inside a jar of home brand Nutella.

Splendour In The Grass 2018 will wrap up tonight (Sunday, 22nd July) with a headlining performance from Kendrick Lamar.
