Australia Indie-rock band The Whitlams will mark the 25th Anniversary of their fourth album, “Love This City,” with a special tour of Australia. The album was released in 1999 and includes the hit single “Blow Up The Pokies,” peaking at #3 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
The band will play the album in full along with a number of their biggest hits from October to December. To make things even more exciting, they will be backed by a brass section, adding the “oomph” and “glitz” to their classic songs. The band will be joined by special guests Charm Of Finches on all dates except Melbourne, where Kim Salmon & Ashley Naylor’s Tag Team Classic will open the shows.
The Whitlams – ‘No Aphrodisiac’
The tour will begin in Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Friday, 3rd October, followed by Swansea’s Craigie Knowe on Saturday, 19th October, and will conclude the tour with a finals show at Adelaide’s The Gov on Saturday, 7th December.
Fans can sign up for presale tickets and also go into the running to win one of 10 prizes, from VIP soundcheck experiences, to “Love This City” vinyl test pressings, or hand-written lyrics by Tim Freedman. Freedman went as far as to declare his staunch stance on “blowing up the pokies” last year, in sympathy with the song’s anti-gambling message.
