Weird Al Yankovic Announces “Mandatory” Australian Tour

It’s been a massive year for Weird Al Yankovic, with his latest and 14th album Mandatory Fun unexpectedly turning out to be the most successful of his career. Thus it is with the wind in his sails that he embarks across the pacific to treat us Aussies and Kiwis to some of his Mandatory Fun on his Mandatory World Tour.

Setting him off on a North American tour, visiting 100 cities, the Mandatory Fun is showing no signs of slowing for Yankovic, with Australia and New Zealand the next stops on his world tour.

The tour will be taking in Sydney and Melbourne, before hopping over the Tasman to visit Auckland and Christchurch, before zooming back over to drop in on Adelaide. Special pre-sales will be held at weirdal.com starting September 28th at 9:00 am and will go on sale to the public on Thursday, October 1st at 10:00am.

With Mandatory Fun having topped the US Billboard Chart, the first time a comedy album has held that honour in over 50 years, 2015 proved to be a rather unexpected renaissance for the famous parody maker. The album features send ups of Pharrell WilliamsHappy (Tacky), Robin Thicke‘s Blurred Lines (Word Crimes) Lorde’s Royals (Foil), Iggy Azalea’s Fancy (Handy) and Imagine DragonsRadioactive (Inactive), plus, the resulting onslaught of videos, 8 released online in as many days, saw Yankovic amass 46 million vies in the first week alone.

Yankovic will of course be in the country for the Falls and Southbound festivals.

In the meantime, check out some of our favourite new and old Weird Al videos here and you can get the full tour details below.
