FBi Radio have named Melbourne solo producer LUCIANBLOMKAMP (pictured) and Sydney band The Walking Who as winners of the 2014 Northern Lights Competition. Both acts beat out almost 600 other entries from around the country, including some very impressive finalists.
For winning the 2014 Northern Lights Competition, both LUCIANBLOMKAMP and The Walking Who will perform showcases at the 15th annual Iceland Airwaves Festival this November. They will also get some well-deserved studio time, and the chance to network with industry professionals amongst the beautiful Icelandic scenery.
LUCIANBLOMKAMP, the 20-year-old beatmaker and producer, released his debut album Post-Nature only last week. Speaking of his Northern Lights Competition win, LUCIANBLOMKAMP said, “It’s been a life-long dream to be able to take my music overseas, and it’s a surreal feeling to know that FBi has made this dream into a reality.
“I can’t explain how much this means to me and how excited it has made me for my future as a musician. I can tell that Iceland Airwaves is bound to be an amazing experience that I won’t forget”. Watch the video for Post-Nature‘s first single, Help Me Out, below.
NSW psychedelic band The Walking Who have cited Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros as having shaped their picture of Iceland. “Since watching Sigur Ros’s live DVD Heima back in 2007, dreams of swimming in volcanic hot springs began to form. The decision had been made to one day, somehow, travel to Iceland,” the band said.
“Now, finding out not only that FBi are sending us… But [that we’re] going there to play music in one of the world’s best music festivals with ya’ mates is simply a brain f***. Truly the best thing a bunch of Aussie lads could ever ask for.” Watch the music video for Mansions cut Take My Picture, below.
FBi’s Music Director Stephen Goodhew has talked up Australia’s international music cred, saying, “It’s no secret that Australia punches way above its weight when it comes to the quality of our home grown talent. To be able to take a couple of our favourite emerging artists and show them off at an international festival, alongside some of the most respected names in music, is a huge opportunity that we’re proud to offer.”
The Walking Who will be performing at Sydney’s Sounds Of The Suburbs 2014 in late September, and LUCIANBLOMKAMP is set to play Victoria’s Paradise Music Festival in November.
