Several Acts Ruled Out For Splendour In The Grass 2015

As we edge closer to the 2015 instalment of the beloved winter festival Splendour In The Grass, the lineup rumours have well and truly begun to circulate. However the introduction of the new WayHome Festival in Canada has ruled out a slew of big name acts for the July Byron Bay event.

This week saw the lineup announcement for the debut WayHome Festival, which will take place in Ontario, Canada over the same weekend as Byron’s Splendour In The Grass, from Friday, 24th July to Sunday, 26th July.

Names on the inaugural lineup include Kendrick Lamar, Modest Mouse, The Decemberists, Passion Pit, Sam Smith, Fucked Up, Girl Talk and Run the Jewels – dashing any hopes fans might have had of seeing these acts return to Australia for Splendour 2015.

The lineup also rules out a return tour for recent visitors St. Vincent, Future Islands, The Gaslight Anthem, Hozier, Cold War Kids, How to Dress Well, Danny Brown and alt-J and also rules out Australian acts Vance Joy and Courtney Barnett.

The Canadian festival is presented by Republic Live and AC Entertainment, the company behind Bonnaroo, Forecastle, and Big Ears Festival. See the full lineup below.

Not all hope is lost for disappointed punters though, as the lineup for another festival – Japan’s Fuji Rock – gives us a clue as to the names we might actually see on the July Splendour bill. The Japanese festival also takes place the same weekend as Splendour but its geographic proximity means it usually shares a number of its acts with Splendour In The Grass.

In 2014, the festivals shared acts like Outkast, Lily Allen, Darkside and Kelis. This year’s Fuji Rock lineup is headlined by the likes of Foo Fighters and Muse, with a lineup that includes The Bohicas, Cero, FKA twigs, Johnny Marr, Jenny Lewis, twenty one pilots, Of Monsters and Men and Ryan Adams.

Another name rumoured for Splendour 2015 is Mark Ronson who on his recent whirlwind Australian visit indicated that he would love to return with his full show and addressed those niggling Splendour rumours. “I can neither confirm nor deny any of these rumours. If I can figure out a great show, I’m going to be here – that’s what I know for sure.”
