Jager Uprising, The Annandale Hotel – 29/04/2010

On Thursday 29th of April the Annandale Hotel held their 5th semi of the 2009/2010 Jager Uprising Band competition. Six bands fought it out for a spot in the Grand Final and a chance of pocketing a ten grand recording prize. The bands: Aplonea, Baynets for Legs, Video8, Le doogan and Arc Archer all played to a level befitting a semi-final birth.

Stand-outs Video8, with their infectious electro/pop/rock vibe and cool video show, glowed. A good sized crowd of punters converged as their first song set the scene for one cool show. Synched images of 80’s computer games, 80’s cult cinema and even the odd ‘solid gold dancer’ complimented Video8’s polished performance. With tunes founded on a solid pop sensibility, there is a distinctly edgy, artistic and at times trippy feel. Vocalist Maxine Kauter’s voice and stage presence shone. She has a polished pop sound with a distinctive rock edge which delivered a powerful dynamic.

With the band really hitting their straps as the performance grew toe tapping throng at front of stage, and a drummer channelling Iron man through his mask, Video8 is a must see show. Think big stadiums, lights, video show, polished tunes and a cool vibe all in a pub!

Video8 won on the night and will now progress to the semi finals.

On this performance I’d be surprised if Video8 don’t go through to the Jager Uprising Grand Final.
