Ariana Grande has defended her fiancé Pete Davidson after he was criticised for joking about the Manchester Arena attack, which killed 22 people and injured 59 during an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.
The Saturday Night Live comedian apparently made light of the terror attack in a stand-up routine last year, in which he allegedly said Grande must have realised how famous she’d become because “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert”.
Grande fans have questioned why the singer is still with Davidson since news of the joke surfaced.
Taking to Twitter today, Grande told fans, “This has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn’t find it funny. it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate.”
She followed up with, “I hear you and respect you always… i love u all v much more. u wouldn’t believe tbh.”
Davidson is yet to comment, but his representative told Metro, “No subject is off limits and that includes jokes about his father and 9/11.”
Grande and Davidson became engaged last month and the singer is due to release her new album, Sweetener, on 17th August.
