Paul Kelly Is Bringing Back The Making Gravy Tour With Courtney Barnett, Kate Miller-Heidke And More

We’re but a few months out from gravy season, mates, and Christmas has come early this year.

Songwriter and Australian institution Paul Kelly has announced his popular Making Gravy concert series will return this December, kicking off festivities with stops in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney before wrapping up on “Gravy Day” itself – the 21st – in Brisbane.

And, once again, he’s bringing some extra special guests along with him.

Guitar hero Courtney Barnett, Kate Miller-Heidke and New Zealand songwriter Marlon Williams will join the iconic songwriter on all legs of the tour, with Thelma Plum – who released brilliant debut album Better in Blak last month – opening the concert in Sydney. Huge.

The Making Gravy series is now in its third year, featuring music across Kelly’s extensive back catalogue of songs like ‘To Her Door’, ‘Dumb Things’ and ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’.

Of course, there’s also a special place reserved for ‘How To Make Gravy’ – Kelly’s 1996 Christmas classic which tells of a prisoner writing a letter to his brother in the lead-up to December 25th. The track has enjoyed a unique resurgence over the past few years online, inspiring a parody Twitter account and the beloved #putyourgravyout hashtag.

The series debuted in Melbourne in 2017 with Gang of Youths and Meg Mac, before returning last year for an East Coast tour with the likes of Angus & Julia Stone and Alex Lahey in tow.

Check out tour dates and venues below. Tickets go on sale Friday, 23rd August, with Frontier Touring and Paul Kelly pre-sales on Tuesday, 20th August.
