Watch Lil Nas X Take Off In Video For ‘Panini’

Lil Nas X has shared a futuristic, space-themed video for ‘Panini’, the single off of his EP, 7. The video is full of robotic, futuristic armour with serious Blade Runner vibes.

There’s floating cars, hologram billboards, spaceships, oh and a really persistent Lil Nas X hologram that pops up everywhere. Directed by Mike Diva — a special effects specialist, director, and YouTuber — the clip is a significantly fancier and tidied up version of the rapper’s MTV VMAs performance.

Little tidbit: ‘Panini’ also features an interlude that samples Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’. Chatting with Billboard, Lil Nas X said, “I put the snippet out and everyone was like, ‘Wow, he’s sampling Nirvana’.”

“I was like, ‘Where? I’m not sampling Nirvana. This, the beat doesn’t have Nirvana in it.’

“And then I listened to ‘In Bloom’ in full and I was like ‘Oh Okay.’”

Good news though, Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean approved it.

“I actually heard from Kurt’s daughter,” he said. “She’s the one who pretty much approved the song and she told me how much she loved the video for ‘Old Town Road’ and stuff.”

He also mentioned the two now follow each other on Instagram.

According to a press release, ‘Panini’ is about a fan who loves you in the beginning stages of your career “for the cool factor of knowing about something before it becomes mainstream”. Along with, “that fan feeling like they’ve outgrown you when the rest of the world catches on.”
