Looks Like We Might Be Getting A New Fiona Apple Album Early Next Year

Fiona Apple is known for her spaced out and infrequent album releases along with her general air of mystery. Vulture were absolutely blessed to receive an email from Apple herself, giving them an interview (the first in seven years).

Basically, Vulture journo Rachel Handler pointed out a weird incident where a Variety interview with the director of Hustlers, Lorene Scafaria was re-dubbed. Variety claim the dubbing was a “glitch”. But the clip had made it seem as though Fiona Apple was donating the royalties from her track ‘Criminal’ —which is used in the movie—back to the film, rather than a refugee aid organisation.

Fiona Apple reportedly appreciated Handler’s journalism so much, she emailed her from a hotmail email address offering to talk.

“They overdubbed the word ‘REFUGEES’,” Apple said in the email. “No one seems to think this is a big deal, but I think it is, and I’m wondering if you’ll write something about it. Email me if you want to talk.”

The interview covered heaps, from Billie Eilish to J.Lo’s dancing to ‘Criminal’ featuring in Hustlers.

Most importantly though, they covered Fiona Apple’s follow-up release to The Idler Wheel from back in 2012.

When asked when the new album might be coming Apple said, “I mean, I don’t know! It’s hard to say. I was supposed to be done a million years ago. And I go off and I take too long making stuff. I’m hoping for early 2020. I think.”

She said the problem is she tends to “go off and take too long making stuff”.

“When it’s just me recording myself, it’s different, but with the band stuff, you have to wait for everybody to be in town and be able to do it,” she explained.

“So that slows things down a bit. And I tend to forget about working after a while. And then be like, ‘Hey, what’s going on? Let’s play, let’s play.’”

The interview with Vulture is fairly extensive and definitely worth a read, have a gander over here.
