Start Making Your List, Voting Has Opened For This Year’s Hottest 100

Start remembering your favourite tunes from the past year, because it’s that time once again – voting for triple j’s Hottest 100 has opened.

You’ve got until 3pm on Monday, 20th January to narrow down your list and make your vote count, with the official countdown taking place on Saturday, 25th January.

Reflecting on the year that was in music, triple j Music Director Nick Findlay commented “Who would have predicted that among the biggest artists of the year would be a young Aussie who’d go from busking in Byron to becoming one of the world’s most streamed artists in less than 12 months, or that a genre-defining teenager from LA would write one of the year’s biggest records in her bedroom with her older brother?

“It was a year where quality original music reigned supreme, which will no doubt cause some headaches when it comes to whittling down your shortlist for this year’s Hottest 100.”

The countdown arguably remains one of the country’s most beloved institutions. Last year’s poll was the biggest Hottest 100 ever, with over 2.7 million (!) votes being cast and millions of people tuning into the countdown which saw Ocean Alley claim the #1 spot with their hit ‘Confidence’.

If you need help rejigging your memory, the folks at triple j have got you covered. To help you take a trip down memory lane, they’ve kindly compiled lists of their Feature Albums from the past year.

Plus, dozens of artists including Denzel Curry, Maggie Rogers, Stella Donnelly, Thelma Plum and more have shared their own personal list of favourite songs from this year to help provide a little inspo.

This year, the station has partnered with Greening Australia, an organisation that runs tree-planting projects across the country to restore natural environments, cool our cities, save endangered animals and pull carbon out of the atmosphere – you can chip in a donation while voting to contribute to this very worthy cause.
