A nightclub in Fortitude Valley is being investigated police after footage emerged of people appearing to ignore social distancing rules, dancing shoulder-to-shoulder at the Prohibition nightclub on Friday night (3rd July).
Bars and clubs in Queensland were allowed to reopen last Friday (3rd July) as part of the third stage of eased restrictions with a ban on dance floors – revellers instead permitted to sit down and order drinks and food at pubs, bars and nightclubs across the state.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she hoped nightclubs would reopen despite the ban last week, because “young people can still sit down and enjoy a meal” and “listen to the music”.
As the SBS reports, Palaszczuk says police are investigating the club to determine whether it breached COVID-Safe restrictions over the weekend, confirming that police are examining images and fines will be given if it was determined they had broken the rules.
“From all reports, the majority of them did [the right thing],” she told reporters on Sunday morning. “But it is unfortunate that some of them did breach those rules.”
“If they have breached those COVID Safe plans, there could be fines imposed.”
Queensland lifted a range of restrictions across the state last Friday. In addition to pubs and clubs being reopened, large parties and community sport were also permitted under the eased regulations.
