‘Countdown’ Hosts To Reunite For New Podcast Series

Former Countdown hosts Ian “Molly” Meldrum and Gavin Wood are reuniting for a new podcast series that will revisit the iconic Australian music show.

The podcast – titled Gavin Wood’s Countdown – is set to look back on the substantial impact Countdown had on Australia’s music history, and include guests who appeared on the show during its run, reports the Herald SunWoods hosted Countdown alongside Meldrum from 1980 until the ABC show’s end in 1987.

“The band is back together again, although we’re a bit battered and bruised,” Wood told the newspaper. The presenter recently moved back to Australia after being based in LA for the past 12 years.

Meldrum added, “It’s unbelievable. It’s great to celebrate the legends of music, the artists, the musicians and producers.”

“It’s great to celebrate the legends of music, the artists, the musicians and producers. Without them, we would never have had Countdown.”

Reflecting on the show’s end, Wood said, “We all cried when it ended. We were at the bar weeping like teenagers because the dream was over. By 1987, it became a new generation of kids who had Nintendo, and computers, and music video shows to watch.”

The first episode of the podcast – which features special guest Daryl Braithwaite – can be listened to below, or here via Spotify.
