John Lennon’s 80th Birthday Is Being Celebrated With A New Remix Album

Were he still alive today, John Lennon would be celebrating his 80th birthday this coming October. To mark the occasion, his family will be releasing a remix album containing reworks of some of his greatest hits.

The album, titled Gimme Some TruthThe Ultimate Mixes, will feature 36 songs that were, as reported by NME, “completely remixed from scratch, radically upgrading their sonic quality and presenting them as a never-before-heard Ultimate Listening Experience.”

All the songs have been remastered “to the highest possible sonic quality”, and were reportedly completed using exclusively vintage analogue equipment and effects at Henson studios in LA.

A selection of reimagined classic Lennon tracks will appear on the album, including ‘Imagine’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Dear Yoko’, ‘Give Peace A Chance’ and even a live version of ‘Come Together’.

In addition to the album, the deluxe version will be accompanied by a 126-page book.

“John was a brilliant man with a great sense of humour and understanding,” writes widow Yoko Ono in the accompanying book.

“He believed in being truthful and that the power of the people will change the world. And it will. All of us have the responsibility to visualize a better world for ourselves and our children. The truth is what we create. It’s in our hands.”

Ono executive produced the album, with his son Sean Ono Lennon producing it.

Gimme Some TruthThe Ultimate Mixes is out Friday, 9th October.
