Listen To Corey Taylor’s Blistering, Country-Tinged New Single ‘HWY 666’

Corey Taylor is getting ready to release his debut solo album CMFT next month, and today he’s shared the latest single, ‘HWY 666’.

A hard rocker with hints of outlaw country, ‘HWY 666’ is another insight into the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman’s genre-defiant approach to the record, following previous singles ‘CMFT Must Be Stopped’ and ‘Black Eyes Blue’.

The album was recorded at Hideout Studio in Las Vegas with producer Jay Ruston, and includes Taylor’s bandmates Christian Martucci (guitar), Zach Throne (guitar), Jason Christopher (bass) and Dustin Robert (drums).

In our interview with Taylor last month, the singer recalled the straightforward genesis behind the album. “When I had all of this time, unexpectedly, I realised that I had all of these songs that I’d written through the years that don’t fit in with any band. I haven’t been able to give them to other bands to record, maybe this can be my solo record. It really was that simple,” he explained.

Taylor also discussed the sonically diverse nature of his debut, explaining: “I was just trying to be me, so me, means everybody. Anybody who knows me, knows that I love everything from Prince to Pantera. So when it comes time to write, I can really go anywhere,” Taylor explained.

“With this album there was a bunch of that going on, but I still really wanted it to have a sense of cohesion. So even though you get some jazz or rockabilly stuff… you get some hardcore punk or 80’s glam rock all tied together and it works. I don’t know why, but it works and I’m glad it does.”
