Watch Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Cover John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’

Late last week, Tame Impala bandleader Kevin Parker shared a stripped-down cover of John Lennon‘s ‘Jealous Guy’, paying tribute to the legendary Beatle on what would have been his 80th birthday.

In the video – posted to Tame Impala’s Instagram account – Parker performs the song alone from the comfort of his own bed, delivering a solo rendition with just acoustic guitar and vocals. Whereas Lennon’s original is filled out with bass, drums and a soaring string section, Parker’s sparse arrangement shows how well the Imagine classic’s songwriting holds up on its own.

Parker and his Tame Impala bandmates have kept themselves fairly busy over the last six months, with their interpretive “Tame Impala Soundsystem” sets on Fallon and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.

Last month, the band shared a blissed-out remix of ‘Borderline’ courtesy of Blood Orange, and they recently performed in an empty soccer stadium in Perth to celebrate the new FIFA 21 game.

Between all that, Parker has also dabbled in property ownership, purchasing the Western Australian recording studio where he recorded debut album Innerspeaker.

Last month, Tame Impala announced they were rescheduling their The Slow Rush Australian tour, with those dates now set to take place in December 2021.
