PREMIERE: Watch The New Video For Zac Henderson’s Bittersweet Slow Burner, ‘Drawing Blood’

Hobart songwriter Zac Henderson crafts arresting folk that’s equal parts heart and wit – at once introspective and deeply relatable.

His latest single, ‘Drawing Blood’, is an alt country-inflected slow burner that’s buoyed by its twangy guitar, gorgeous harmonies, and above all, an enduring sense of hopeful optimism peeking out through the uncertainty of Henderson’s lyrics.

It’s the lead single from Henderson’s forthcoming debut album, Lay the Stones, which is set to arrive later this month on Friday, 22nd January, following his Procrastination EP back in 2017. Henderson wrote the material across a couple of years in between tours throughout Australia and the UK.

“‘Drawing Blood’ as a song has shifted a lot in the process between writing and recording. As a tune when I wrote it, it was acoustic guitar vocals and, I think, even harmonica,” Henderson explains.

“As the sounds and instrumentation in the song changed, so did my feelings about it. I enjoy being able to listen to these songs just to hear the elements of the band that played with me. The rises and falls in ‘Drawing Blood’ give the full album a nice dynamic in listening as a whole, and I hope you all enjoy it.”

Today, we’re premiering the video for ‘Drawing Blood’. It’s a simple but effective, black-and-white clip that sees an impassioned Henderson crooning and playing guitar to the song. Watch it below.
