Sydney’s Iconic Enmore Theatre Is Reopening Next Month With A Huge Launch Gig

Sydney’s Enmore Theatre has been closed for nearly a year now thanks to the pandemic, but next month the iconic venue will reopen, and they’re kicking things off with a huge gala launch party.

Set to take place on Monday, 22nd February, the Enmore’s ‘Sounds of Sydney’ re-opening night features an all-star musical lineup that includes the likes of Cold Chisel‘s Ian Moss, Tim Freedman of the Whitlams, Choirboys, Alex the Astronaut, Red RidersIsabella Manfredi of the Preatures and more.

All ticket profits from the evening will be donated to Support Act, the country’s only charity delivering crisis relief services to musicians, crew and other industry workers.

When punters re-enter the Newtown instituion for the first time, they’ll notice it’s had a facelift – while on hiatus from hosting gigs, owners decided to make the best of a bad situation and bring forward a planned restoration.

New works included reinstating the venue’s side wing balconies in line with their original 1936 architecture, a renovation of its art deco ceiling and lighting design, and the introduction of 2.5 kilometre, state-of-the-art LED strip lighting – able to be computer-programmed to synchronise with an artist’s performance.

“We can’t wait to welcome people back to the Enmore. While we were devasted by the impact of COVID-19 on our business and the industry, we’re pleased we could utilise the time to restore the Enmore to its original glory and take it to the next level,” commented Sam Nardo, COO of Century Venues.

“The Enmore has hosted some of the world’s most iconic artists and created lifelong memories for artists, promoters and punters alike. I encourage everyone to come along and help us celebrate our re-opening – it’s going to be big!”
