Triple J Shares Details Around Their New Weekly First Nations Show, ‘Blak Out’

It’s a long time overdue, but triple J have finally launched a weekly show focusing solely on First Nations artist, titled ‘Blak Out’.

Beginning this Sunday at 5pm, the hour-long programme will be hosted by Yuin and Thunghutti rapper Nooky, who is also producing the show alongside weekend presenter and Gamilaroi woman Karla Ranby. In addition, the show’s theme music was produced by iconic Ngarrindjeri producer, trials.

“Blak Out is the FUBU of radio: For Us, By US,” Nooky said of the new show.

“From old unk singing round the fire to the lil cuzzo spitting fire, this show serves more heat than nan’s curried sausages. Represent the present, remember the past, showcase the future!”

The programme seems to have been in the making for some time, with a large group of Indigenous people in the industry lending their time and advice to help with its creation, including Briggs and DRMGNOW.

The first iteration of ‘Blak Out’ premieres at 5pm Sunday, 20th June and will play from 5pm – 6pm every Sunday.
