Dolly Parton Is Releasing Her First Novel Next Year

Country music legend (and public health champion) Dolly Parton can add another achievement to her substantial list – novelist. Parton’s debut book, Run, Rose, Run, is set to be published by Penguin Random House next year.

The book, co-written with lauded author James Patterson, tells the story of a young woman moving to Nashville to pursue her musical dreams, and is set to arrive on March 7th, 2022.

That’s not all. To coincide with its release, Parton will also release a new album of songs “based on the characters and situations in the book,” and that lyrics from the album will conversely appear in the novel.

“It’s been an honour – and a hell of a lot of fun – to work with the inimitable Dolly Parton, whom I’ve long admired for her music, her storytelling, and her enormous generosity,” Patterson commented.

“The mind-blowing thing about this project is that reading the novel is enhanced by listening to the album and vice versa. It’s a really unique experience that I know readers (and listeners) will love.”

While Run, Rose, Run marks Parton’s first novel, she’s released multiple books over the years, most recently 2020’s Songteller: My Life in Lyrics. She’s also spearheaded childhood literacy through her Imagination Library program.
