Anohni Calls on Dolly Parton to Run as a Republican for US President

Anohni has puzzled the internet after randomly dedicating a full Instagram post imploring country superstar Dolly Parton to run as the Republican party’s candidate for President of the United States.

“DOLLY PARTON FOR PRESIDENT 2023,” the English-born singer-songwriter posted today, alongside a photo of Parton. “PLEASE RUN AS A REPUBLICAN WE WILL ALL VOTE FOR YOU,” she added, along with the hashtags “#SOS #lasthope #AmericanAngel”.

Fan responses to Anohni’s post ranged from enthusiastic agreeance to total confusion, with one commenting, “What the fuck does this mean? Have u been hacked?”

One person quipped, “Wait, is 9-5 actually about socialist reform?” Someone else said, “Dolly can’t be a republican because she’s NOT HATEFUL ENOUGH for them.”

Dolly Parton has traditionally been quite tight-lipped about her political leanings. Speaking to The Guardian in 2017, she said, “I don’t really like getting up on TV and saying political things. I don’t even want to make a deal out of it, but I want people to know I’m my own individual self.

“I’ve got as many Republican friends as I’ve got Democrat friends and I just don’t like voicing my opinion on things.

“I’ve seen things before, like the Dixie Chicks. You can ruin a career for speaking out. I respect my audience too much for that, I respect myself too much for that. Of course, I have my own opinions, but that don’t mean I got to throw them out there because you’re going to piss off half the people.”

However, earlier this year, that all changed. The country star, who recently swapped her country roots to release a full-blown rock album, went on the US Today Show to share some fiery thoughts about the modern political landscape in America.

“Don’t get me started on politics,” she said. “Now how are we to live in a world like this? Greedy politicians, present and past, they wouldn’t know the truth if it bit ’em in the ass.”

When asked which politicians she was referring to, Parton said: “All of them. Any of them.”

“I don’t think any of them are trying hard enough… They worry more about their party than they do about the people,” she said.

“If we just do what we felt was the right thing rather than who’s going to lose or who’s going to win this, or who’s going to look better if they do this.”

The chat sparked a widespread call for Dolly to run for president. And it seems she’s already got Anohni’s vote.
