Yes you read that correctly. Pro skater Tony Hawk has lent his vocals to an incredibly iconic cover of Millencolin’s ‘No Cigar’. The track from the Swedish band featured in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 video game.
Released in 2000, the follow up to the incredibly popular Pro Skater, which was released a year prior, had just as much an emphasis on the soundtrack as the first one did. To this day, the series remains as having some of the most impactful and memorable soundtracks in video game history.
For the ‘No Cigar’ cover, Hawk is joined by Mikey Hawdon of Toronto punk rock band Fairmounts on guitar, Millencolin’s Nikola Sarcevic on bass, pro skater Steve Caballero very aptly playing a guitar with a body made out of a skateboard, and Punk Rock Karaoke and former Goldfinger drummer Darrin Pfeiffer.
There’s a bit of a visual crossover between the cover’s clip and some of the graphic’s featured in Pro Skater 2, so this entire experience is made all the more visceral.
