Parquet Courts Release New Single ‘Homo Sapien’ Ahead Of Live Stream

Parquet Courts will release their new album, Sympathy For Life, this Friday, 22nd October. The band have premiered the music video for the record’s third single, ‘Homo Sapien’. It follows the singles ‘Walking At A Downtown Pace’ and ‘Black Widow Spider’.

‘Homo Sapien’ seems an utterly representative title for a Parquet Courts song—it’s a wonder they haven’t used it already. The band stay true to form on the track; a pulsing garage rock tune with lead vocalist Andrew Savage sounding just as verbose and unrefined as ever.

Sympathy For Life follows 2018’s Danger Mouse-produced Wide Awake! The new record—the Texas-via-New York band’s seventh—evolved out of freeform jam sessions in upstate New York. Producer Rodaidh McDonald worked to sculpt the recorded jams into more conventional song structures.

The band also had help from John Parish on a couple of tracks. Parish’s past credits include PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning and Aldous Harding; McDonald has worked with The xx, King Krule, David Byrne, Hot Chip and stacks more.

In other Parquet Courts news, the band will be hosting a livestream event, Feel Free: Sympathy For Life, Visualised, at 8PM AEDT tonight. It’ll feature the work of 11 visual artists from around the world including contributions from Adult Swim’s Joe Pera and an introduction by NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton.

The stream is happening via NoonChorus. Grab your tickets here.
