Canadian indie-rocker Leslie Feist revealed last year her interests in collaborating with metal band Mastodon.
Now the Laneway sweetheart Feist has spoken on the cover of Mastodon classic. In an interview with news.com.au. Fiest said that after seeing Mastodon play on the Jools Holland Show, she was ‘blown away’.
In the interview, she states that “Brent came up to me and said, ‘You got some nice riffs girl’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, well I wonder what you would do to those riffs?’
Assuming that riffs are not a sexual innuendo, it’s safe to say that they are a fan of each other’s music. “ That’s how it all began. Then they announced it on MTV, it was actually happening, which was a great surprise. So yes, it is happening.” Feist continued.
This collaboration/cover has picked up where 2011 left off in the covers/collaborations section, with last year’s Skrillex/The Doors combination and also Jack White/Insane Clown Posse.
Do not be lulled into a false belief that Feist will pretty up one of the songs either, oh no, she continued to tell news.com.au “I’m going to see how I can make the song even heavier, but without the quadruple kick-drums and things I’m not capable of. I’m not going to do something gentle.”
Hopefully Fiest will have finished this cover by the time she lands in Australia on the Laneway 2012 line-up, so we can get the first glimpse of what has been dubbed ‘Feistodon’.
