Tropical Fuck Storm Announce New Album ‘Fairyland Codex’

Tropical Fuck Storm have detailed their fourth studio album, entitled Fairyland Codex. The album is set for release on Friday, June 20th via Fire Records – marking the band’s first for the longstanding UK-based indie label – and arrives nearly four years after their last album, 2021’s Deep States. The album’s announcement was preceded by the release of its lead single, ‘Goon Show’, last month. Now, the Melbourne art-rock supergroup have shared another track from it, ‘Bloodsport’.

In a press statement, the band described the new track as “an anthem of resistance for all left with a beating heart to scoop themselves out of the bubble bath of social malaise and backyard domineering”. “Perceive the ticking clock of reality square in the face before we are all left to eat Levi’s scraps like fruity loops in bowls of printer toner and orangutang juice,” they wrote. An accompanying music video has been shared for ‘Bloodsport’, created by anonymous UK-based animator Nespy 5Euro – which can be viewed below.

Since the release of Deep States in 2021, the band have shared a collaborative EP with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard entitled Satanic Slumber Party, as well as a further three EPs: Goody Goody Gumdrops, Moonburn and Submersive Behaviour. A cover of Jimi Hendrix‘s ‘1983’ was released in 2023, while the live album Inflatable Graveyard was released in 2024. Away from TFS, frontman Gareth Liddiard formed Springtime and shared a self-titled album with the project in 2022, while guitarist/keyboardist Erica Dunn released the album Modern Condition with her band Mod Con.

The band’s plans were derailed in 2023 when it was revealed that bassist Fiona Kitschin had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. A GoFundMe launched to assist Kitschin with her chemotherapy raised over $131,000AUD – over 50,000 over its original goal of $80,000. Her treatment was successful, with the band returning to international touring in 2024.

Last month, it was announced that The Drones – the band TFS spun off from in 2017, fronted by Liddiard with Kitschin as a long-time member – would reunite in May for two shows only at the Croxton Bandroom. They will be joined at the long-since sold-out shows by The Nation Blue, the aforementioned Mod Con, Paul Kelly, his nephew Dan and Cold Chisel pianist Don Walker.
