Queens Of The Stone Age Announce Ninth Album ‘Perfecth’

Queens Of The Stone Age have announced their ninth studio album, Perfecth, will arrive on Friday, 30th October via Matador Records / Remote Control Records – just in time for the rock titans to bring it down under on their huge Australian tour this December.

The follow-up to 2023’s In Times New Roman… will feature nine tracks exploring different forms of love and the ways they can both break and rebuild us, with the album inspired in part by the Japanese art of kintsugi – repairing broken pottery with gold to embrace its fractures rather than disguise them.

Queens Of The Stone Age – ‘Insignificant Other’

Leading today’s announcement is new single Insignificant Other, described as something of a centrepiece for Perfecth. Recorded on only the second take, the track captures Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore playing loose and leaving space to respond to one another in the moment.

“It’s a song about distance,” Homme explains. “About how someone can be your entire world only to simply vanish. And about the strange vertigo of being on the receiving end of that.”

The accompanying video, directed by Chapman Baehler, stars a canine hero named Big Chongus as the physical embodiment of “perfecth”, alongside a supporting cast of extremely good boys and girls belonging to members of the QOTSA family.

Produced by Homme and Shuman, Perfecth was pieced together during sessions spanning New Orleans to Los Angeles and is billed as a deliberately eclectic affair, moving between moods described as menacing, gentle, strange and everything in between.

“Every song sounds like it’s from a different world,” Homme says. “And that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”

As for that deliberately mangled album title? Homme reckons the conventional idea of “perfect” is fundamentally bullshit.

“Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’,” he explains. “And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”

Perfecth will arrive just over a month before QOTSA return to Australia for a six-date tour this December, joined by a frankly cooked double-bill of special guests Primus and Tropical Fuck Storm.

The run kicks off in Adelaide on Tuesday, 8th December before hitting Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.

The album announcement also follows the recent arrival of Easy Street, featuring Nikki Lane, which marked QOTSA’s first new music since In Times New Roman…. And because apparently simply releasing music isn’t sufficiently weird for these people, the band have also launched an official 24/7 Complaint Hotline, inviting fans, friends and foes alike to unload their grievances by phone.
