Chelsea Wolfe has unveiled the next chapter of her ever-evolving musical world.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter has announced her ninth studio album, The Dark, due out 21st August via Loma Vista Recordings, alongside its haunting lead single ‘Cold’ (listen below).

Opening the record, ‘Cold’ sets the tone for what promises to be one of Wolfe’s most intimate releases to date… a soaring, emotionally devastating ballad that strips away much of the sonic density she’s become known for in favour of placing her songwriting firmly in the spotlight.
The album also boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators drawn from some of alternative music’s most revered acts.
Among those appearing on The Dark are Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails), Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Justin Meldal-Johnsen, whose extensive production and performance credits include Nine Inch Nails and St. Vincent.
Wolfe co-wrote the record alongside producer Jennifer Decilveo and longtime collaborator Ben Chisholm, drawing inspiration from the idea of walking into the woods at your darkest moment and becoming the very thing you fear in order to emerge stronger.
According to Wolfe, The Dark explores transformation through mystery, symbolism and self-confrontation, with each of its ten tracks designed to feel like its own invocation.
The announcement caps off a busy few months for the genre-defying artist. Alongside unveiling a new bespoke fragrance collection titled GHOSTS, Wolfe recently released the double A-side ‘The Dark’ / ‘Death Is Not The End’ and announced an extensive US and European tour.
Across a career that has seen her move effortlessly between doom metal, gothic folk, industrial, ambient electronics and spectral singer-songwriter territory, Wolfe has become one of alternative music’s most singular voices.
Her résumé includes collaborations with Chino Moreno (Deftones), Converge and Xiu Xiu, music featured in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, and co-writing the score for A24’s horror film X alongside Tyler Bates.
If ‘Cold’ is anything to go by, The Dark looks set to continue that fearless creative evolution.
The Dark arrives digitally on 21st August, with CD and vinyl editions following on 18th September.
