3 Doors Down founding member and bassist Robert Todd Harrell is currently still in police custody on charges of vehicular homicide. Harrell was arrested and charged in Nashville on Friday evening after the car he was driving was involved in an incident that left 47-year-old Nashville native Paul Howard Shoulders Jr. dead.
Associated Press reports Harrell’s vehicle clipped the back of Shoulders’ pick-up truck, causing it to veer off course into a guardrail, and down an embankment where the vehicle overturned. As he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, Shoulders was ejected from his vehicle. He pronounced dead soon after arriving at hospital.
Preliminary police reports indicate that Harrell was travelling at a high rate of speed and showed signs of impairment after failing certain field sobriety tasks at the scene. Harrell admitted to police to drinking hard cider after taking prescription drugs.
Harrell was quickly taken into custody with bail set at $100,000. Things went from bad for worse for the 41-year-old, who was busted for bringing controlled substances into the jailhouse, allegedly holding eight Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and four Oxymorphone pills in a sock.
The band have been quiet on the issue, other than a brief statement on the official website:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Authorities have been tight-lipped on the situation involving the Kryptonite rocker. It’s not yet known if he has lawyered up but it’s clear Harrell is in big trouble.
