A 50-year-old lock of The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger‘s hair has been auctioned off to raise funds for charity, selling for £4,000 (approximately $6,583 AUD), over 4 times more than Keith Richards‘ hair which sold for £900 at a recent auction.
According to The Guardian, the piece of Sir Mick’s mop was cut off in the ’60s by his then-girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton, sister of model Jean Shrimpton, whose grandmother saved the hair. Chrissie put the hair up for auction to raise money for Changing Faces, a charity which works with people who have suffered facial disfigurements. Also auctioned off was a guitar owned by Led Zeppelin‘s Jimmy Page, which went for £26,250, and a set of lyrics for The Jean Genie written by David Bowie, which fetched £18,750.
What we really want to know is who’s collecting the hair and what do they do with it? Putting Page’s guitar or Bowie’s lyrics in your pool room is all well and good but locks of hair could seriously creep out your dinner guests. It’s been suggested that the privacy-conscious Jagger may have bought his own hair by private telephone bid to prevent others from accessing his DNA, as the 69-year-old singer has been hit by several paternity suits in the past.
