Saxophonist and founding member of the legendary UB40 Brian Travers has been spotted pretending to be himself on stage with a tribute band. The musician spoke glowingly of his experience with the cover act, and vows to do to the same with similar outfits all over the world.
Frontman of UB42 Pete Ryder recalled the phone call that led to the addition, stating, “They had a tour that was cancelled recently because their new album isn’t ready yet so he had a bit of spare time and he decided he would come and join us.”
Travers has crunched the numbers and added all the cover bands he knows to his Bucket List, seeing it as the ultimate thank you to their most loyal fans. “I know of about twenty UB40 tribute bands around the world,” he said. “It’s my ambition to play with all of them. I can’t think of a better way of thanking them for celebrating the music of UB40.”
Like four of his band mates, Travers is reported as being bankrupt after their record label collapsed. The musicians apparently played it loose and fast, and left debts to the tune of £750,000 despite UB40 selling over 70 million records worldwide.
