The Joysticks – It Makes Me Sick (Single)

‘It Makes Me Sick’ kicks off with the kind of catchy bass line that grabs your attention. The drums jump in, then vocals coolly sing, “I’m so pleased with myself, it makes me sick” followed by a wicked synth riff. The Joysticks strike me as a group of sassy boys with a knack for music. Their new single is original, smooth, and an addictive listen.

When vocalist/guitarist Edwin Morehead lists Nick Cave and Tom Waits as inspirations for The Joysticks’ song-writing (“ridiculously high” aims, in his mind), one can see how such a young band has such a mature sound. If lofty standards are pushing these talented boys to produce such a high calibre of music, by all means shoot for the stars!

The Joysticks have already played Playground Weekender and Parklife, and supported great bands like Cloud Control, Parades & The Lovetones. I predict even bigger things for the Sydney four-piece, and this tiny taste of a single has given me a serious appetite for an album.
