Once upon a time, there were movies that weren’t sequels, threequels, based on PS3 games, or accompanied by an exclusive muesli bar only available at Coles. In Australia, there was even a time when Australian films were considered pretty highly.
Bruce Beresford is a director of this era of moviemaking. And for all the cinematards (noun: one who is completely lacking in movie knowledge), you may have heard of his last film, Mao’s Last Dancer, or even his classic 1989 Driving Miss Daisy.
So if you’re sick of such cinebominations as “Transformers 8: Super Galaxy Smash”, Australian Film and Television School’s Friday on My Mind event series, which feature talks with guest film industry insiders, will be way up your alley.
On Friday August 19, Bruce “will provide personal perspective on the craft of directing and the art of staying ‘alive’ in the film industry”.
